What surface can my greenhouse go on? +
You can easily position your greenhouse directly on to your lawn or back garden, a concrete base or a paving slab. Choose a level, square area with good drainage for the storage building. The base is not included in the kit, and you may need to purchase it separately or construct your own foundation and anchoring system. The foundation should be at least 10 cm larger than the base rail of the shed, with a minimum 10 cm thick concrete slab recommended.
Do I need to put anything underneath the greenhouse to stop dampness? +
To reduce rising dampness from the soil and minimise condensation build-up in the greenhouse, place a strong plastic sheet (at least 150μm thick) under the foundation. The greenhouse must be securely anchored to prevent wind damage. Once anchored, it is highly recommended to apply silicone along the inside of the base rail to help reduce condensation.
Is my Greenhouse waterproof? +
No, a greenhouse is not a watertight structure. They will generally allow a small amount of water to enter during heavy rainfall. The design of the roof vents, which hinge directly on the ridge bars, means that water ingress is virtually unavoidable. As you will probably have plants in your Steelshed.ie greenhouse, tolerant to water from inside and out.
What maintenance will my greenhouse require? +
To maintain your greenhouse, it is important to clean it regularly. Power washing or using a soft cloth with warm, soapy water is recommended. Avoid using abrasive brushes or cloths, as they can scratch the polycarbonate or glass panels. Each polycarbonate panel has UV protection on both sides, and any scratches or damage can reduce this protection. Additionally, make sure to clean the upper and lower door tracks regularly to prevent a buildup of debris.
What is covered in my warranty? +
Warranties do not cover weather-related damage and we recommend that you should include your greenhouse in household insurance.
